Get free quotesHome improvement is the last major purchase most Americans make without comparing prices. A single in-home sales appointment ends with a number and a discount that expires tonight. Getting three quotes for the same scope of work is the most reliable way to understand what a project should genuinely cost in your market.

Home Services questions, answered
How many quotes should I get?
At least three for any project above a few thousand dollars. Price spreads between contractors on an identical scope of work are frequently substantial, and the middle bid is not automatically the right one. Compare the written scope line by line — materials, brand, warranty, permit responsibility, cleanup and payment schedule — not just the bottom-line number.
Does QuoteAmerica perform the work?
No. We are a free matching service. We are not a contractor, we do not perform, supervise or warrant any work, and we do not employ the professionals you are matched with. All work is contracted directly between you and the independent contractor.
How do I verify a contractor is legitimate?
Ask for their state license number and verify it directly with your state licensing board. Request a current certificate of insurance for both general liability and workers' compensation, sent to you by the insurer rather than the contractor. Check for active liens, read recent reviews and ask for local references from the past year.
Should I pay a large deposit up front?
Be cautious. Many states cap the deposit a contractor may collect. A reasonable structure ties payments to milestones — deposit, material delivery, substantial completion, final payment after your walkthrough and any permit sign-off. Never pay the full amount before work is complete.
